Welcome to Presidio!

Congratulations MBA Grads!

C14 Group Picture

This January we welcomed our incoming Spring 2011 class, Cohort 14. As many of you know, they are an eager group excited to be at Presidio and to see where their journey takes them. This talented group of 27 students stems from various professional backgrounds including Fortune 500 companies and individual start ups. While their individual interests in sustainability vary, their top three sectors of interest are renewable energy, food & agriculture, and energy efficiency

At New Student Orientation these new students shared with us their enthusiasm at entering the Presidio community.

  • How was I lucky enough to get involved/included with such an amazing group of talented and passionate people?
  • I'm clear that I'm at the right place at the right time.
  • The energy and excitement from talking to my fellow classmates, alumni, teachers, and staff was incredibly exciting.

In December 2010, we celebrated the graduation of 31 Presidio MBA students. Graduates showcased their talent at the semi-annual Capstone Showcase which included venture plans for:

  • ZocaloVerde (Nayelli Gonzalez): a multinational hybrid event and online community that connects "sister cities" in the United States and Mexico to precipitate magnetic inspiration and build a more sustainable future in both nations.

  • PowerON! Distributed Generation Collective (Thomas Fisher): a clean tech start-up which allows organizations to install distributed generation technology onsite (solar PV, wind or fuel-cell) with no up-front costs.

  • NextCo Energy Solutions (David Bennett): an innovative approach to financing and developing commercial energy efficiency projects that create economic business value for investors and commercial property owners.

Our graduates now bring their Presidio skills and knowledge to many diverse sectors including Socially Responsible Investing, International Sustainability Efforts, Renewable Energy,  and NGO/Nonprofits, and are contributing to many companies and organizations including: HP,, EcoTensil, Social Venture Network, Saatchi & Saatchi S and Genetech. We are excited to hear about the amazing contributions that our alumni will be making in the months and years to come.

Executive  Certificate Program's 5th Cohort

Presidio is proud to announce the graduation of the fifth cohort of our Executive Certificate program. There are now more than 100 alumni of Presidio’s Executive program. EC5 alumni Cynthia Cheak and Annika Jensen-Lamka, as well as EC4 alum Susan Reeve, were recently featured in a blog post by Women’s Network for a Sustainable Future Executive Director Ann Goodman. Ann also is a member of the advisory council that is helping Presidio launch our east coast Executive program in Boston this May. Read about other Executive program success stories and look for more profiles of our Executive alumni in the coming weeks. Congratulations EC5 and here’s to your current and future success!

Presidians in the Global Community

 India Crew

Over winter break, eleven members of PGS’s International Sustainability Club traveled to India to participate in a sustainable community-building project in Markadhana, a rural village in India. The group partnered with The James Project, a non-profit dedicated to this community founded by Presidian Kelly James, and worked with a local Indian university, Xavier Institute of Management (XIDAS) to create culturally appropriate solutions. The group then spent time in Markadhana, using the tools they learned at XIDAS and Presidio as well as IDEO's Human Centered Design Toolkit, gaining knowledge and understanding to co-create a sustainable development plan with the members of the local community.

Meet the Student Reps

Alumni Profile

Spring brings renewal, change, and growth. One change that we are already excited about is a group of talented new Student Representatives: Joey Christiano, Katie Grotie, John Lehnert, Lauren Wray, all from the MBA program and Josh Newman from the MPA program. They join Senior Reps.: Rob Coombs, Kate Drane, Chelsea Souter, and Zach Worthington.

Keeping students engaged with the changes at Presidio and representing students’ needs with the faculty, administration and board is the Reps' primary goal. To improve communication, they have planned a semester-long series of events in which students can contribute their voice on issues facing the community.

In addition to these projects, they will create a charter that will make it easier to on-board new Reps and maximize their ability to serve the students.

The Student Reps. want to hear from you. Please feel free to email them directly at

Every aspect of the Presidio experience from Experiential Learning projects to managing team dynamics and most importantly developing great friendships with amazing individuals has supported the growth that set him on a more rewarding path.

Faculty News

For our Spring 2011 semester, we are excited to welcome (and welcome back) dynamic and dedicated faculty, who are sustainability experts, practioners, and educators.

Lynne Andersson
Human Resources & Management Ethics

Lynne is an Associate Professor at Temple University in Philadelphia, teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in Business Ethics, Management, and Sustainability and returns to Presidio after her Spring 2010 teaching engagement. Her scholarship focuses on the dark side of business organizations, in particular some of the social maladies that are arguably associated with late capitalism (cynicism and incivility) as well as the role of social activism in countering capitalist barriers to sustainability. Her service engagements revolve around trying to stir things up by attempting to "ecologize" and "humanize" the business world and business education. Outside of work, she can be found trail running, cross-country skiing, being a soccer mama, and shooting the breeze about politics at her local coffee shop

Audrey Davenport
Principles of Sustainable Management

Audrey Davenport

Audrey is excited to join the Presidio faculty and community this semester because “now more than ever, we need thoughtful and skilled sustainability practitioners to envision and structure our transition to a more sustainable economy."  Currently Audrey leads Environmental Defense Fund’s (EDF) partnership with private equity firm, Kohlberg, Kravis and Roberts, LLC as part of the Green Returns Team. Audrey is working to develop and roll out analytic tools and strategies to a wide range of KKR’s portfolio companies, helping them to realize new, environmentally driven business value. Audrey’s prior work includes The Nature Conservancy’s Science and Planning Team, Google’s Green Business Team and Redstone Strategy Group. Audrey was also a Fulbright Scholar in Malaysia. She is currently an adjunct faculty member at Johns Hopkins University teaching Strategic Management for Sustainability.
