A Master Class Featuring Bishop William E. Swing

The Soul of the Entrepreneur: The Purpose Served by Your Creativity

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

This event has passed.

Presidio Graduate School is proud to offer a Master Class by Bishop William Swing. This Master Class is open to the public.

About This Master Class:

Bishop Swing will reflect—and lead you to reflect—on the universality of entrepreneurship and therefore how ordinary entrepreneurs are. You will also be called upon to reflect on how nail-biting the process is, and how critical a moral compass is for bringing the entrepreneur satisfaction, happiness, and fulfillment. By the end of the session, the course will encourage you to move forward, be bolder, and to act with more endurance.

Session Pre-Readings:

  • Why Entrepreneurs Do What They Do (Inc.com, February 15, 2012)
  • URI.com
  • William Swing

About Presidio’s Master Classes:

Offered through the PresidioPRO Center for Professional Development, our Master Classes are interactive keynote lectures by respected global sustainability thought leaders. They often include pre-readings and experiential exercises. Participants who register for the Master Class will receive instructions on how to prepare for the session.

About Ret. Rev. William E. Swing:

Bishop William Swing is the President and Founder of the United Religions Initiative, whose mission is to promote enduring, daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously motivated violence and to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings. He had the original vision of URI in 1993 in response to an invitation from the United Nations, which asked him to host an interfaith service honoring the 50th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter.

Bishop Swing also served as the Episcopal Bishop of California from 1980 until his retirement in 2006. In that capacity, he was a national and international leader in response to the AIDS crisis, co-founded Episcopal Community Services to address San Francisco’s homeless problem, and co-founded Community Bank of the Bay, a community development bank to support local businesses and the economy. During that time he was also a driving force behind the move from bankruptcy to viability of St. Luke’s Hospital in San Francisco, the primary mission of which is to provide primary care services to members of underserved communities.

Prior to becoming Bishop he served churches in West Virginia and Washington D.C. He has also authored/co-authored numerous books and articles, including A Swing with a Crosier (1999), Episcopal Diocese of California and The Coming United Religions (1998), CoNexus Press. He has also received 5 Honorary Doctorate degrees and negotiated the release of prisoners during El Salvador’s Civil war.
Bishop Swing and his wife Mary recently celebrated their 50th anniversary and have two children and three grandchildren.
